view from ngochoni hill

ngochoni (say ng-go-cho-knee) is a "neighborhood" about 7 miles from the nearest road. it is about a 1 hour bike ride from migori, the nearest town. until a few years ago, no one lived in ngochoni because of a 30 year old war between the 2 local tribes, the luo and the curia. petals of africa school was built on this land specifically as a means of bringing the two tribes back together. today, 6 years after the school was begun, there are over 100 students, pre-school to grade 5, with equal representations in both the students and teachers, from both the luo and curia. the war has ended.
